Washington Urban Debate League (Washington, DC)

The Washington Urban Debate League (WUDL) provides debate to hundreds of middle and high school students at public and charter schools in the Washington, DC area. WUDL creates a fun, competitive, and academic environment where students develop critical thinking, public speaking, and research skills, while growing in confidence and capability. Our values are equity, growth, and opportunity. Our reason for existence is to make the transformative opportunities provided by debate available to our students at no cost, regardless of personal circumstance, reading level, ability, or other factors. We believe in putting our students first, and making sure they are always appropriately challenged so they keep growing, academically and social-emotionally. WUDL is the only organization in Washington, DC offering debate to public and charter school students, and our programs are designed to even the playing field in an equitable manner. We work only with publicly funded schools, and focus our efforts on Title 1 schools where opportunities for academic enrichment are often more scarce.
